Religious Design Comes Full Circle: Atelier Štěpán’s Design for a Rotunda in Sazovice, Czech Republic
Almost 250 kilometers outside Prague, Sazovice is a small village with a population of approximately 700. It is also the site of the Atelier Štěpán-designed Church of St. Wenceslas, the scale of which attempts to mediate between the small size of the village, and the vastness of faith. Churches are a challenge, in much the same way that religion is a challenge. For the faithful, there is truly no measure and no end to the divine. It only follows that shaping and housing this unending expansion is primed to constrain or misunderstand.
